The problem this solves
The CRM shows one revenue number and accounting shows another. A multi-year contract sits in a single deal and skews every annual report, a renewal overwrites the history, and customer value lives in one person’s spreadsheet, so nobody can close the month without them.
How I work
I start with how you sell: what counts as a product, how contracts renew or expand, and what finance recognizes as revenue. From that I build the model in HubSpot. Standard objects and associations come first, and a custom object only when a concept can’t be stored any other way, because each one has to be maintained later.
A multi-year contract, for example, can be split into a separate deal for each year, linked by a shared key, so both the annual report and the contract history are correct. On top of the model I set up calculated properties to replace spreadsheet math, and reports built on finance’s definitions. Before changing the model, I check which reports, lists and workflows depend on it.
What you get
- A data model write-up: objects, associations and the source of every number
- Rules for recording contracts, renewals and expansions
- Custom objects where standard ones fall short
- Calculated properties in place of spreadsheet math
- Revenue reports that match finance’s definitions
- A list of reports and workflows to update after the change
